xx series

The name of the xx series is inspired by the Chinese character 爻 (Yao) .

Originally from the I Ching, “Bagua” represents the cultural beliefs of Chinese astrology, geography, and philosophy.

The artist has used the Bagua as a new approach to interpreting modern issues.

Each topic is expressed through three methods: painting, installation, and merchandise: the painting and installation present the issues while the merchandise materializes ways of resolving matters in everyday living.

The different Trigrams of Bagua represents varying meanings and is differentiated by symbols and numbers. The xx series includes eights series, and the works are numbered according to the numbers of the Trigrams.

By encouraging mindful observation, this black design accentuates the subtle beauty of flowers. The design encourages the attention to focus on nuances that were previously overlooked during the selection process.

Inspired by Laozi’s concept of“ Excessive colors blind the eyesight ” this design is conceived with the hope of guiding users to focus their awareness on wildflowers and encourages the return to authenticity. The Kenzan used in flower arrangements paired with shallow containers makes the design suitable for smaller flowers with delicate stems, while the dark color brings attention to the details of the flower.

The rolling ball creates a sound that resembles footsteps on pebbles and fallen leaves, while the combination of sound and smell transfer the senses deep into the mountains.

Binchotan (white charcoal) and camphor wood shavings have dehumidifying, clarifying properties, while the sound the ball makes while it rolls across the wood shavings recalls the natural sound of walking on pebbles or leaves.
